Floodlights on for extra time at TOFT

Our Champion girl TOFT Nashira  had a sticky time yesterday evening  finally giving birth at 7.45pm producing a stunning fawn LAVENDER PARK TULLEY  boy TOFT TYPHOON. All well in the end but the trauma required a few stitches so the vet was called off the bench in Towcester floodlights erected and extra time was played until 10pm.  All well this morn and the boyo looking very impressive blissfully unaware of the effort his Mum put in to get him here. 'Twas ever thus.

TOFT TIMOGEN has a new extended family

Shirley and I are delighted to announce that, after much interest being expressed ,we have now agreed to share ownership of our Champion Brown Male TOFT TIMOGEN with Mark and Sue Steele of Patou Alpacas, Ron and Linda Mackintosh of Redens Alpacas and Tracy and Tim Hey of Inca Alpacas. We thank them for their confidence in investing in our hard work and look forward to working closely with them to develop the future career of this stunning young male. 

This is very much a first for TOFT after breeding alpacas for 18 years but we are very excited to be embarking on this next stage of our alpaca adventure in working with discerning breeders to get our elite genetics creating as much fine fibre as possible to satisfy the ever increasing demand for luxury UK Alpaca Fibre.

TOFT Timogen will work close to home this season with his new owners and will be available for service next season- book early to avoid disappointment.

TOFT TIMOGEN is a fourth generation male  out of our Champion female TOFT NASHIRA ( daughter of BARRBINDA FLINDERS STAR ) and our other co-owned male LAVENDER PARK TULLEY currently resident at TOFT and available for service.

Can you hear them munching? All the TOFT stock moved paddocks last week to enjoy the new grass growth. Centre here, surrounded by his gang of brothers is TOFT Timogen National Brown Champion in 2014 and 2015. 

These Intermediate brown males, sons of Lavender Park Tulley and half brothers to TOFT Timogen are loving the new chomp, look great against the green and are hopefully working up an appetite for the girlies! 

Timogen will be staying here but TOFT Titus, Tai Pan and Leander son of Jaina are all looking for new homes. We shear on the 20th so anyone interested in seeking out top colour genetics for their breeding programme needs to look soon as these wonderful fleeces will soon  be in the bag.

Lavender Park Tulley and his mates are enjoying the dry readying for the off. If your breeding plan is veering toward Lavender Park Tullley then book early for he'll be a busy boy real soon. We are currently shuffling the females into their various groups for birthing and mating and on. May 1st we shall kick off making the next generation for 2016. 

TOFT Adele takes Reserve Champion Brown Huacaya Fleece at the British Alpaca Futurity 2015

TOFT Adele a beautiful Medium Brown Adult female out of Lavender Park Tulley took Reserve Champion Brown Fleece at the British Alpaca Futurity 2015. What a day for TOFT Alpaca Stud we walked into the Ricoh Arena this morning to find we had taken two broad ribbon Championships and a Reserve Champion Ribbon at the British Alpaca Futurity 2015. 

What about us? Don't we get to go to the Ricoh?

Sorry dudes, we can't take you all. You may have won rosettes at the British Alpaca Society National but this is a different ball game and entries aren't cheap.

In a Futurity it's the nominated sires who are actually competing through their offspring. The sire with the the most winning points achieved through the competition of his progeny  wins the Futurity. Technically if you have a sire with a stack of offspring and your sire happens to pick up the dams colour, and produces elite alpacas and they do well in every class and achieve champions in something you are In with a chance. Not a big ask, huh?  At least I think that's how it works ...

LAVENDER PARK TULLEY who is standing at TOFT is one of the sires and all our entries for the Futurity are his offspring in as many colours and age groups as we can muster. Does he have a chance? It all depends on who is standing next to his kids...hey, that's show business!

Lavender Park Tulley...standing at TOFT 

First Maters arrive in TOFT quarantine... from Derbyshire

Please, I know 'Maters' is not a word it just aptly describes these two lovelies from Derbyshire who arrived in the TOFT Quarantine paddocks last Friday to be mated to Lavender Park Tulley.  Tulley was a very happy boy yesterday at first sitting with his first go of the season. If any other breeders out there are thinking of using Tulley this season and have not yet booked in with us here at TOFT can we suggest you give Shirl and I a call ASAP as the boyo has a very busy schedule planned for 2015.

Mated maidens all grown up...

As we approach Autumn we are busy scanning all the mated girls for an estimate of next years crop of elite cria. These former show girls have now given up winning rosettes in the glamour of the ring for maternal duties back on farm. 

These are all first timers daughters of Barrabinda Flinders Star, Toft Jaina and Lavender Park Tulley and form the elite  centrepiece of the  Toft Herd. They are now all pregnant for the first time and will settle down for the winter, chomping hay and grass and nurturing future Champions. Well one can only hope at this time of the year, next season will reveal whether our choices bear fruition.

Alpaca milk round....

This stunning Lavender Park Tulley female has been bottle fed since birth. For some reason she rejected her Mom at birth and although her mother stood over her offering the milk bar for weeks she wouldn't have a drop of it. It's the first time this has ever happened to us in 17 years of alpaca breeding. 

Thankfully we are now reducing the frequency of the feeds and starting to wean her onto hard feed which will be a relief for Shirley who has taken on the brunt of the workload with help from her Mother Myra, the interns in the Toft Alpaca Shop and any passers by who ask to lend a hand.
